Support for Establishment of National/Regional
Social Sciences Data Archives

University of Zagreb Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The University of Zagreb was founded in 1669. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FFZG) was established in 1874, and today it offers more than 100 BA and MA programmes as well as 19 PhD programmes in the area of humanities and social sciences (HSS). Faculty has the biggest academic library in Croatia for the areas of HSS, built and opened in 2009 with large space for students and equipped with modern information and communication technology. Faculty has more than 700 employees, with more than 500 academic staff as well as more then 600 part-time lecturers. Main tasks in SERSCIDA: Task Leader T2.2 and T3.2

Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities has an Office for International cooperation established which is taking care of international agreements, teachers and students exchange and administrative and informative support for applying and participating in international projects. FFZG has been and still is involved in 23 projects under different EU and non-EU programs (6th and 7th framework programs, TEMPUS, CIP, CEI, LLP and other). For the last decade, FFZG Library was actively involved in building Croatian scientific information systems. Library has vast experience in managing library data also in developing and implementing different open source software tools. Members of "Croatian data archive initiative" formed in 2005, recognised the FFZG Library as potentially the best place for future establishment of data archive for social sciences in Croatia.

Marijana GLAVICA employed as psychology librarian, also working as systems librarian,
taking care of all library automation systems in the Library. Member of "Croatian data
archive initiative". Responsible person for coordination of SERSCIDA activities in Croatia.

Dobrica PAVLINUŠIĆ graduated in Information Sciences at the University of Zagreb,
Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin. Previously worked as system architect in international pharmaceutical company currently employed as systems librarian in FFZG. Relevant fields of interest: data mangling, databases and software development.

Alen VODOPIJEVEC graduated at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Sociology. Employed as a systems librarian at Rudjer Bosković Institute. A coordinator of a project "Digital repository of Rudjer Boskovic Insitute". Member of "Croatian data archive initiative". His skills and specialization includes: systems, database and computer networks administration and computer programming.

Teo MATKOVIĆ is a PhD in Social Policy at the University of Zagreb, currently employed as a junior lecturer in the Social Policy Chair of the Faculty of Law and research assistant on the project "Social cohesion indicators and development of the Croatian Social Model". Completion of MSc in University of Oxford inspired him to initiate the "Croatian data archive initiative" in 2005. His research interests focus on inequalities and policies in spheres of unemployment, employment, and education.

Otvoreni pristup

'Otvoreni pristup' se odnosi na praksu pružanja neometanog internetskog pristupa znanstvenim tekstovima. Budući da se sva istraživanja i inovacije zasnivaju na ranijim postignućima, učinkovit sustav za široku disperziju i pristup istraživačkim publikacijama i neobrađenim podacima može ubrzati razvoj znanosti. Deklaracija iz 2008. godine OECD-a navodi „da otvoreni pristup i neograničeno korištenje podataka promovira znanstveni razvoj i olakšava obuke istraživača“ te povećava „vrijednost javnih ulaganja u proces prikupljanja podataka“. SERSCIDA će se usmjeriti na potrebu za poboljšanim i otvorenim pristupom i dijeljenjem primarnih podataka prikupljenih kroz istraživanja u području društvenih znanosti, te će u isto vrijeme pokušati podržati oživljavanje postojećih državnih strategija i struktura te doprinijeti razvoju novih.
